Do these caskets meet Australian Standards?

Yes they do. They are leakproof and sturdy. They have been tested to 230kg weight.

What is the difference between a coffin and a casket?

A coffin is the traditional diamond shaped with an attached lid. A Casket is rectangular and the lid is separate.

What size are Last Expression caskets?

Our caskets are made to measure. Everyone is different, we make one to suit you.

Can I be buried anywhere?

No, you must be buried in a designated burial area. For special circumstances you would need approval from your local Council.

Why do you only sell caskets, not coffins?

The design of our casket is simple, making it possible for a lay person to put one together. The choice with our casket is the personalised artwork that can be applied.

Must I use a Funeral Director?

No, the funeral industry has been de-regulated and you can now use any part of a Funeral Director’s services together with those of a Funeral Planner or you can manage it all yourself. The choice is totally yours, including Funeral Director, Celebrant, Casket, delayed time to burial/cremation. There is little that you MUST do.

Will my funeral director use it?

There are some funeral directors that are traditional and will not use anything that they do not supply, but with the change in demand this is becoming less of a problem. It is suggested that you check around your area before engaging a funeral director.

How long does it take to make one?

It takes approximately 4-6 hours to put a flat pack together and then time is needed to decorate if you wish.

When should I order one if a loved one passes away?

Order your casket sooner rather than later. If it is imminent that a loved one will pass away in the coming weeks, get organised before the event, so that you can take your time and put thought into decorating it. It is much easier to do it this way than to wait until they have passed away and then rush into the process. Depending on your location, it may take a 10-14 days to deliver.

How long after my loved one passes away do I have to get organised?

As long as you like!! Funeral directors may say that it must be done in a certain time, but the truth of the matter is there is no rush. If you want to wait until relatives in other States/Countries can arrive, that is fine. This goes for building your casket as well – if you need more time, you can have it – you are in charge, even though that’s not the impression you may get from a funeral director.

If I build a casket before it is needed, where do I store it?

It can be stored anywhere that is not moist. It could even be used as a storage box at your home. If you are unable to store it at your home we can organise storage for you at minimal cost.

Is this casket eco-friendly?

Yes – it is made from plantation timber, eco-friendly glue, with screws. The lining can be anything you wish, so can be hessian, cotton, wool – the choice is yours.

How do I decide what represents me?

Ask your nearest and dearest what you mean to them. They will give you the best idea, or at least a good starting point. Children are very honest when it comes to deciding what you mean to them.

Do you have a favourite footy club? What’s your favoutite pastime - chess, knitting, gardening? What’s your favourite colour - gold, red, blue, pink? Do you like a particular type of decor - art decor, country? What is your favourite movie or song - Doris Day, Johnny Cash, Queen? Are you a hippy - peace, flowerpower? What is your dress style - retro, character?

Is this a good choice for cremation?

YES! Cremations done in timber caskets burn more efficiently, decreasing the time/energy used for the process and leave less ash, as opposed to those made of cardboard and MDF.

Why are coffins so expensive?

Traditional coffins are a profitable sale for funeral directors and have been encouraged by them. In the past there has been almost a coercion by some funeral directors to use the products they supply. Until recently there has been no other way to buy a coffin, so you had to pay what was asked. But as people have become aware of their options this is changing.
